ANTHONY BRAND NEW YORK GLYCOLIC FACIAL CLEANSER AND FACIAL SCRUBS

ANTHONY BRAND NEW YORK GLYCOLIC FACIAL CLEANSER AND FACIAL SCRUBS

On my recent Krème Chats, I had a chat with Uti Nwachukwu; the first male on our series. He spoke about his skincare routine and gave tips to other men and women; click here to read interview. In the spirit of the launch of the men’s skincare series, I decided to share a review of skincare product my man has been using for some time.

Anthony brand is a skincare brand for men. They have a cute tag line which is “Developed for men. Borrowed by women.” As I mentioned in my previous post, my husband is my sweet guinea pig, so some years ago he agreed to try this brand after I suggested it to him. He has extremely oily skin, especially when we are in humid weather like Nigeria. He purchased this product like 3 years ago, and since then keeps it in his arsenal. Recently I decided to borrow this product to try out, to see if it was a product that women would love as the brand suggests and they were not wrong. Since this is a men’s skincare review, I think it’s only right my husband and I review this brand together.

ANTHONY GLYCOLIC FACIAL CLEANSER

It is a non-foaming cleanser formulated with 4.9% glycolic acid that removes dirt and grime off your skin without stripping your skin.

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS

4.9% Glycolic Acid – Glycolic acid is naturally derived from sugar cane and it is the simplest alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA). It has greater penetration potential, largely due to its smaller molecular weight. It helps loosen the bonds that hold skin cells together, allowing dead skin cells to slough off more effectively. It can be mildly irritating to the skin if the formulation contains high glycolic concentration. Glycolic is great for acne prone skin because it keeps the pores clear, it fades hyperpigmentation, it is great for actinic keratosis (which is basically patches on the skin due to years of sun exposure), and it is fantastic for anti-ageing treatments. Regardless of the skin type or condition, the use of glycolic acid can lead to younger, smoother and softer looking skin.

ALOE VERA – Aloe Vera has hydrating, softening, healing, anti-inflammatory properties. Aloe Vera is popularly known for its moisturizing benefits and it is fantastic in treating sensitive skin, sunburned or sun exposed skin.

VITAMIN A – helps to improve the skins texture, firmness and smoothness. Vitamin A helps prevent scaliness of the skin keeping skin healthy. Its skin regeneration properties are enhanced when combined with vitamin E.

VITAMIN E -it’s an anti-oxidant with skin moisturizing qualities

VITAMIN C-  Reduces hyperpigmentation, fades acne scarring by improving skins healing response, boosts collagen, when combined with sunscreen it allows for long lasting broader sun protection against UV exposure, it brightens skin and gives a healthy glow.

PRICE $28

HOW TO USE IT

It can be used day and night. Apply a generous amount on your palm. Massage on face with white hands. Rinse off. I would recommend using facial cloth to take off /rinse off especially if you are extra oily. Pat dry.

HOW LONG DID I TEST THE PRODUCT?

Hubby: As long as my wife tells me to. I kid. She usually asks me to test product for a month. This Facial wash is my second favorite out of numerous product lines I have tested so I return to it time to time.

Bebe: I tested it for just a couple of days just to see how it felt.

FRAGRANCE

Hubby: Doesn’t have much of a smell. It smells like lotion to me.

Bebe: The facial wash has a light citrus smell. I’d say it smells like a cross between orange and lemon.

SKIN TYPE

Hubby: I’ve been told that my skin is oily.

Bebe: This cleanser is recommended for normal to oily skin. I think it’s about right, I will recommend it for even skin with acne and some sensitive skin may tolerate this cleanser

PACKAGING

Hubby: Cool packaging. Doesn’t look like I have a collection of girly products in my caddy. It is pretty difficult to dispense. I feel like I’m going to crack the bottle some day with the effort I have to make to squeeze the content out of the bottle.

Bebe: Good travel size. Stiff to open, and difficult to dispense product. However, the benefit is that this will probably prevent spillage during travel.

REPURCHASE:

Hubby: Yes. Not my first option, but a close second.

RATING 4/5

Hubby: 3.5/5. The difficulty in dispensing the product is a tad annoying. I am very used to foaming facial washes so it feels weird using one that feels more like lotion than a wash. However, I do like the fact that my skin doesn’t feel dry after using it.

CONCLUSION

HUBBY

Pro: My skin feels moisturized after using.

Cons: The design of the bottle and the viscosity of the product makes it difficult to dispense from the bottle. Also, more of a personal issue, using a lotion type face wash takes some getting used to.

BEBE: I generally liked the cleanser. I loved the fact that it is non foaming so my skin didn’t feel stripped or tight. In conclusion, I would continue to borrow this cleanser.

CHAMOMILE – it is bactericidal, anti-itching, soothing, antiseptic, purifying, refreshing and hypoallergenic with the ability to neutralize skin irritants.

VITAMIN C - Reduces hyperpigmentation, fades acne scarring by improving skins healing response, boosts collagen, when combined with sunscreen it allows for long lasting broader sun protection against UV exposure, it brightens skin and gives a healthy glow.

PRICE - $36

HOW TO USE IT

After cleansing, apply generous amount to palm and apply on damp skin. If you have sensitive skin, dilute with water before massaging your skin. Please do not pull massage.

HOW LONG DID I TEST THE PRODUCT?

Hubby: I tested it for a month. The Facial scrub is my favorite out of numerous product lines I have tested so I return to it whenever I’m not testing product for my wife.

Bebe: Only for a couple of days.

FRAGRANCE

Hubby: The facial scrub smells a little fruity (like orange), but not overwhelmingly fruity that it smells girly.

Bebe: Reminds me of orange soda, or Fanta.

SKIN TYPE

Bebe: Hubby has oily skin. It is recommended for all skin type. I would recommend to oily skin.

PACKAGING

Hubby: Cool packaging. It is a little easier to dispense than the facial wash, probably due to the fact that it is not as think.

Bebe: It was easier to dispense compared to the facial wash.

REPURCHASE:

Hubby: Hell yes!

RATING 4/5

CONCLUSION

Pro:

I like the foaming effect. I like the way it feels. My skin feels really clean, clear and soft afterwards. I like the smell.

Cons:

None.

BEBE: Unlike hubby, I thought this was a bit drying for my skin. I liked the exfoliating beads where fine and so it would not damage your epidermis but what turned me off was it was slightly foaming which I could do without. If I do use it again. I probably use a balm or oil first before using this scrub and skip using the cleanser because it made my skin feel tight.

I really enjoyed doing this review with hubby, thanks love! and I hope you enjoy reading it. If you have any questions about skincare products, please leave a comment. Thanks.
