TAKE SKIN BACK TO BASICS

 

The world of skincare can be overwhelming and confusing to say the least. From social media, traditional media, and YouTube, clients do not know what to do and how to do it because the are inundated with a lot of information and misinformation. We decided to take things back to basics. We shared a few tips that may help to focus on what you may need to know. We hope this will help reduce the uncertainty you may feel when approaching skincare.  

Cleanse your skin: This is the foundation of any skincare program. It is essential to cleanse properly before incorporating the following steps of your routine. This gets you off on a good start and allows your treatment to work more effectively. Your skin should my cleansed daily and twice a day with the appropriate cleanser for your skin and skin’s conditions. Cleansers for all skin types and conditions come in three general forms: gels, lotions, and creams. All products are unique and depend on the ingredients in that product category. Its important to note that these categories are general, and not absolutes.

 

Use the right antioxidant for your skin condition: Antioxidants prevent oxidation by neutralizing free radicals. Antioxidants are free radical scavengers that stop the oxidation reaction from continuing. There is a plethora antioxidant available in the market. With the increasing number of products available, consumers are overwhelmed and confused about what products to use, when. Using the right formula for your skin leads to the right results. Using the wrong antioxidant may lead to irritation and worse outcomes. So, focus on using the right antioxidant formula, suitable for your skin at the right times.

                        

Be careful not to over exfoliate: In recent times, we have seen a growth in clients with over exfoliating. With the increasing availability of acids our clients with good intent and up over doing the exfoliating steps. With this we are treating more sensitized, angry skin. The solution DON’T over exfoliate, reel it in. Start slow, focus on nourish your skin and exfoliate twice a week (on average). Again, using the applicable exfoliant for your condition and type.

                    

 

Always protect your skin: SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN! FOR EVERYONE. It should be a stable in EVERY skin program. It protects you from UVA and UVB rays, and most importantly skin cancer. There are a number of options available. However the best sunscreen is the sunscreen  you will use. Take your time, read ingredient deck for allergies, and try a few. The key is use sunscreen and use it daily.

 

 

See an expert:  A good place to start is visiting a licensed skincare professional. They are trained and experienced treating your skin conditions and gradually taking you to a more balance skin. When it comes to certain skin conditions, there is just so much topical skincare can rectify. Visiting an aesthetician or a dermatologist regularly takes you at home skincare program a step further. Depending on the condition and the treatment, regular visit can get you to your goal faster. Secondly, your therapist is trained to put together a program after a through consultation which takes away the guess work from skincare products. Finally, it is recommended you visit your dermatologist yearly for a check up to check for any skin disease etc.
